We function in this world with our attitudes, either positive or negative. Attitude determines the lifestyle of a person and it develops, when perception is followed by projection. These attitudes are developed by an individual over a period of time and according to their development.
Human beings fall into three categories – the FIRST is of those who imagine, project difficulties in any undertaking even before they start the work and end up doing nothing! They are like the Ambassador car which will not start unless given a push! The SECOND kind are those who are called ‘Prarambh Shura’. They are inspired initially but within no time start perspiring, they give up for lack of perseverance. The THIRD, are those who become more and more inspired to undertake a job, the more they face challenges and difficulties of life.
Although one is very successful, negativity in attitude can crop up at any time for any unknown reason in one’s life.
Friends, please remember -
1. We alone are responsible for our attitude.
2. As is our attitude, so are our perceptions.
3. As is our perception, so is our interaction with the world.
4. As is the interaction, so is the experience of life and,
5. As is the experience, so is the quality of life.
During the camps for children, we often come across children complaining, “Before and after the examinations, I remember everything but during the examination, I forget things.” This happens only because of the attitude problem.
People who have negative attitude think and project only negative things and they develop it to such an extent that even a positive thinking man can become a victim of their presence. Such negative people themselves can do nothing and they don’t allow anybody to do anything!
Negative attitudes are the result of a weak personality - at physical, emotional and intellectual level. Physical strength can be gained by proper intake of food, vitamins etc.. The present day girls are too much obsessed with their figure. They torture their bodies. They get cranky and misunderstand anything their parents say. This is a negative attitude, the reason being physically not fit. When you don’t eat food, you think about food. When you do this, you have misplaced the material – the food has gone to your head! A good physical health helps us to come out of negative attitude in life.
Friends, as much as physical strength is required, so also emotional stamina is a must. Emotional strength is gained by discovering some altar in life – be it God, a temple, your Guru, an idea; it does not matter and surrender yourself at that altar with total involvement and faith. Put your logic behind because by logic, no problems are solved. By love alone, all problems get dissolved.
When we apply our faculty of intellect and enquiry in doing a job successfully, it is vital to get the things done not ‘because of all odds’ but ‘in spite of all odds’. Enquire into ‘how a thing is possible’ and not the other way round. One must also remember that life is not only success but an ability to go through both success and failure. In success, we enjoy and from failure, we learn.
When we have the art of learning from the failures in life, it leads to success ultimately. This attitude towards failure is a positive attitude.
When these three aspects of our personality are cultivated and developed systematically, the person grows and develops Atma balam (inner strength). With inner strength, positivity becomes the foundation of our expression. The Mundaka Upanishad says that the Truth is not revealed to the cowards. Success is not for the dropouts and weaklings in life. Such get crushed in the world.
When you have physical strength, emotional beauty and intellectual capacity, your attitude becomes positive. When with this positive attitude, you jump into the battle of life, success is bound to happen.
